Radiant Snow Melt Keeps Driveway and Patio Snow-Free

Friday, May 11, 2012 by Gerry Clisham

When the snow is falling the last thing you want to think about is shoveling the driveway.  But no matter how nice the falling snow looks, and how much fun it can be, eventually the driveway, sidewalk, steps, and patio need to be cleared.  Today's hydronic heating systems can solve this problem with Radiant Snow Melting.

Radiant Snow Melt systems circulates warm water / glycol solution through flexible tubes just under the surface.  Advanced systems monitor the moisture and temperature and automatically turn on to melt the snow as it falls.  These systems have been used for many years at ski resorts, hospitals and nursing homes where it is critical to keep surfaces clear to minimize falls.

Radiant Living Magazine recently examined a unique snow-melt application in Greenwich, CT. Click here for the entire article (Spring 2012).   Triangle Tube's Prestige 399 condensing boilers were used in this featured application.  The Prestige Condensing, Modulating Boilers will operate at peak efficiency in snow melt applications.  Snow melt systems operate at low temperatures which maximize the efficiency of condensing boilers.

Triangle Tube Condensing Boilers provide for all of your heating needs,  The most common use is for space heating with traditional radiators, baseboard, or radiant floor installations.  Pairing a boiler with a Smart Indirect Water Heater provides efficient domestic hot water.  Snow Melt and Pool Heating are perfect for the condensing boilers as they operate at maximum efficiency.

Condensing Boilers Maximize Savings from this Warm Winter !

Tuesday, March 6, 2012 by Gerry Clisham

The unusually warm winter in North America has cut everyone's heating costs this year - but the biggest winners by far are homeowners heating with high efficiency condensing hydronic heating systems.  The two features of condensing boilers that contribute to these large savings are Modulation and Outdoor Reset.

Modulation is the process that increases or decreases the heat output, or firing rate, of the boiler.  Just like your kitchen stove, a modulating boiler can adjust its heat output but it doesn't need a person there to make the adjustment.  The boiler's control monitors the heat absorbed by the house by measuring the temperature of the boiler water as it leaves and as it returns to the boiler.  The larger the temperature difference, the more heat the boiler must add to the water, and the higher the firing rate that the control will create.

Non-modulating boilers operate at full fire all of the time.  This is inefficient for two reasons.  First, the boiler is least efficient at full fire, and most efficient at low fire.  So the longer the boiler can run at low fire, the more efficient it is.  Second, each time the boiler starts and stops it loses efficiency.  Modulating boilers run longer at lower temperatures, minimizing the starts and stops.

Outdoor reset is a simple yet extremely important part of a high efficiency system.  An outdoor sensor tells the boiler's control what the temperature is outside.  The boiler uses this information to adjust the temperature of the water that the boiler supplies to the radiant emitters.  This supply water does not need to be as hot during warm weather as it does during cold weather.  By supplying lower temperature water to the system, the boiler can maximize its efficiency.  Click here for outdoor reset basics.

Triangle Tube provides three models of condensing boilers.  The Prestige models feature a stainless steel fire tube heat exchanger with a full featured TriMax control and are available from 60 to 399 MBH.  The Prestige Excellence provides heat and up to 180 gallons per hour of hot water from its indirect water heater.  The Challenger models are available for both heating only (Solo), and combination heat and hot water (Combi) applications.  Challenger boilers are sized from 85 MBH to 150 MBH.   The Keystone models feature a stainless steel water tube heat exchanger and are available in sizes from 399 to 850 MBH for larger residences and light commercial applications.

Prestige Cascade beats Alaskan Cold

Tuesday, December 27, 2011 by Gerry Clisham

Alaska Housing AuthorityWhen the Anchorage Housing Authority approached Bittner Plumbing and Heating to upgrade the heat and hot water for their 44 unit apartment building, they wanted a system that would be efficient and reliable.  Paul Bittner of Bittner Plumbing and Heating worked with Mark Herrington at Heating and Ventilation sales to design in a Triangle Tube Prestige Cascade boiler system with Smart Indirect Water heaters to do the job.

Prestige CascadeThe 44 units are heated with baseboard radiation and the hot water for all units is provided by the twin 120 gallon Smart tanks.  ThePrestige Cascade Condensing Boiler unit is built with three 399 MBH boilers.  This provides a highly efficient and effective boiler plant.  By combining the three boilers, a turndown of over 10 to 1 is achieved.  This helps the plant run efficiently with parallel modulation.  With three boilers, the building has the reliability of redundancy in the event of a boiler error or maintenance.  The three boilers are vented with a common vent manifold to minimize the vent piping and provide a single vent pipe.

Smart Indirect Water HeatersThe Smart Indirect Water Heaters are also both highly reliable and efficient.  The inner stainless steel tank is designed to expand and contract as the water temperature changes during use.  This tank expansion eliminates scale build-up which reduces efficiency and leads to tank failures.  The unique tank-in-tank design provides a large surface area for heat transfer which reduces the amount of time required to heat the water.  These two Smart units replaced conventional direct fired water heaters.  The Smart tanks have 2" of foam insulation completely surrounding the tanks, keeping heat loss down to less than 2 degrees F per hour.

The Housing Authority's decision to upgrade their cast iron boilers and conventional water heaters with Triangle Tube's efficient Prestige and Smart models is saving money every day. As the heating season progresses I will post the savings data.

Challenger Condensing Solo Boiler Provides High Efficiency Heating

Monday, December 19, 2011 by Gerry Clisham

The new Challenger Solo Condensing Boiler joins the Challenger Combi BoChallenger Solo Condensing Boileriler in providing high efficiency hydronic heating in a compact package.  The Challenger Combi boiler provides both heat and domestic hot water, eliminating the need for a separate water heater.  The Challenger Solo boiler provides heat and can provide domestic hot water when paired with an indirect water heater.

The Challenger Solo boiler features a copper tube heat exchanger with an aluminum combustion block.  This unique design is durable and suitable for glycol applications because the system water or glycol flows only in the copper piping.  The aluminum block efficiently transfers the heat from the combustion air and it's light weight makes installation easy.

The Challenger Solo is available in 85, 105, and 125 MBH sizes.  These models are sized to meet the needs of today's homes.  By modulating its output to match the radiant heating needs, the Challenger Solos will operate longer at lower temperatures, which improves efficiency.  These sizes of the Challenger Solo have an AFUE of 95% and operate on either natural gas or propane.

Smart Indirect Water HeaterThe Challenger Solos can provide domestic hot water when paired with a Smart Indirect Water Heater.  The Smart can be sized to fit the needs of the residence, providing the instant hot water response that is expected from traditional tank water heaters, with the efficiency of an instantaneous water heater.

Condensing Boilers make Hot Water Too

Monday, September 12, 2011 by Gerry Clisham
I had the opportunity to speak with a homeowner recently who was looking for a contractor to service her boiler.  Unfortunately the firm that she had used to install her boiler not only did a poor job in the installation, but also installed more equipment than she needs.  This brings to mind two important points.

First, the vast majority of problems that homeowners encounter with their hydronic heating systems could have been avoided with proper system design.  This is why hiring a highly qualified contractor is so important.  A good contractor will foresee any system design issues and save you money in the long run.  Triangle Tube's Certified Contractor Locator (click here) will email you a list of up to 5 contractors in your area that can meet your needs.

Smart Indirect Water HeaterSecond, one of the big advantages of hydronic heating systems is the ability for your boiler to heat your domestic hot water as well.  Take advantage of this by installing a Smart Indirect Water Heater to go with your boiler.  Many homeowners are interested in energy efficiency and are interested in an instantaneous water heater.  However the Smart Indirect Water Heater is extremely energy efficient and costs only $0.05 per day to keep 40 gallons of hot water ready for use.  Unfortunately this homeowner, interested in doing what she thought (and was told) was best purchased an instantaneous water heater in addition to her boiler.  She could not get the performance she wanted from the instantaneous water heater and was considering a hybrid water heater.  As I explained the value of the Smart Indirect Heater, that would be more energy efficient and cost half as much to install as the hybrid water heater, I realized how important it is to get good advice.

Solar Indirect Water Heater is a Green Choice

Friday, July 29, 2011 by Gerry Clisham

There are rapid advances in the use of the sun's energy that are makiSunng it attractive to a growing number of homeowners.  While solar power has been available for decades (even the White House had panels in the 1970's), the activity in this market is reaching a fever pitch.  These advances are reducing the costs of installation, which is driving new business, driving new investment, further reducing the costs.  That is the power of progress.

One of the best paybacks today in the solar market is solar thermal - using the sun to heat a home's hot water - and even help with some space heating.  The concept is actually very simple.  Circulate water or glycol through rooftop tubes that heat the water and then transfer that heat to domestic water.  Of course it is more complicated than it sounds and there are a lot of ways to get this done.  But the bottom line is that these relatively simple and compact systems can offset much of the energy used to heat the hot water in a home.  And this is significant because hot water Smart Multi-Energy Tankheating makes up 25% of household energy costs.

Triangle Tube offers a solar hot water solution for homes with hydronic heating.  The Smart Multi-Energy (SME) Indirect Water Heater is designed to integrate solar energy into the complete hydronic system.  The  SME contains a heat transfer coil that transfers the heat from the solar panels to the hydronic system water that surrounds a domestic water tank.  This large volume of water (both hydronic system and domestic) is able to maximize the  heat energy from the solar panels.

When the solar panels are not able to meet the demand, the hydronic system provides heat from a boiler.  Triangle Tube's Prestige and Challenger natural gas or propane boilers are green choices as their AFUE's are 96% and 95% respectively.  They feature low NOx emissions and modulating controls using outdoor reset to minimize their carbon footprint.

The four keys to Boiler Replacement

Monday, July 25, 2011 by Gerry Clisham

There are four keys to successfully replacing your boiler.  By following these keys, you will ensure a fast trouble-free installation and much lower utility bills.  Prestige Boiler

1)  Selecting the right product - Craftsmen will tell you that building a fine piece of furniture starts with selecting the right wood.  The same is true in boiler replacement.  By selecting a reliable, highly efficient boiler, you will ensure that the project will be a success if the three other keys are followed.  Choosing a poorly designed product will ensure long term dissatisfaction, even if the other keys are correct.  Triangle Tube's Prestige and Challenger boilers are industry leaders in reliability and efficiency.  For more information on this, see the end of this post.

2)  Select the right contractor - Once again, a good contractor will make or break the project.  There is much more involved in replacing a boiler than simply removing the old boiler and inserting a new one.  The boiler must be sized and the piping layout reviewed to ensure that the heating system works in harmony.  A good contractor will have experience and proper training to know how to join all of the parts of the heating system into an efficient, effective, heating machine.  Click here to find certified Triangle Tube contractors in your area.

3)  Size the boiler properly - A lot has changed in your home since the last boiler was installed.  Perhaps you have new windows and/or doors.  Perhaps radiant floor heating was installed.  An addition may have been added, the attic has been insulated.  A proper heat loss analysis must be performed to select the proper boiler for the house.  An boiler that is too large will cause excessive cycling and drive up energy costs.  One that is too small will not keep the house warm on the coldest days.

4)  Use outdoor reset - One of the biggest efficiency gains in new boilers is the ability to use computer technology to adjust the hydronic system to the heating load.  As the weather gets warmer, less heat is required.  By lowering the system temperature, the house is able to be heated much more efficiently.  Please make sure this important feature is being used.  For more information on outdoor reset, click here.

Challenger Boiler
Triangle Tube's Prestige and Challenger boilers are modern, highly efficient, natural gas or propane boilers that have excellent track records in reliability.  With AFUEs of 95% or higher, and low NOx emissions, these are responsible, green choices for both the environment and your budget.  When paired with a Smart Indirect Fired Water Heater, they form the right solution for your residential heat and hot water needs.

Natural Gas Condensing Boilers - The Green Solution

Monday, June 20, 2011 by Gerry Clisham

One of the positive changes in recent times has been the increased awareness of our impact on the environment.  It was not long ago that "Green" was not a part of our everyday terminology - and who ever heard of a carbon footprint.  Today a significant and ever-growing portion of society considers the environmental impact of their decisions on a regular basis.

Another recent positive change has been the increased use of natural gas.  Not only is it readily available in North America, but it is also a very clean burning fuel.  These two features make it very attractive for many consumers.  Finally, the Prestige Condensing Boilertechnological advancement of hydronic (boiler) heating solutions has resulted in condensing boilers that can operate at the highest levels of efficiency.

Triangle Tube helped drive the residential condensing boiler revolution with the Prestige Condensing Boiler.  Its unique stainless steel fire tube design, high efficiency (96% AFUE), and reliability have made it a leader in its market.  When combined with a Smart Indirect Water Heater, homeowners will have an extremely efficient heating and hot water system.
Challenger Combination Boiler
Triangle Tube recently added the Challenger Combination Boiler to its lineup.  This boiler combines a high efficiency (95% AFUE) boiler with an instantaneous water heater within the same unit.  The results is an appliance that provides heat and hot water from the smallest foot print imaginable.  The Challenger is perfect for closet installations or areas where space is at a premium.

Triangle Tube's Prestige and Challenger boilers work with both natural gas and propane.  Choose one of them for your "Green" efforts.

Replacing your boiler or water heater? Summer is the best time to install a high efficiency boiler and water heater.

Tuesday, May 10, 2011 by Gerry Clisham
With the weather finally turning nicer and summer just around the corner it is tempting to put the memories of high heating bills and an old boiler away with the winter coats.  But now is the best time to work on replacing your old boiler and water heater.

1) Installing a new boiler in the summer allows the installer to do the work without turning off the heat in your house.  Both you and the installer will be happy about that !

2) Heating oil has reached record levels and shows no sign of a significant change.  Many people are "planning ahead" by locking in relatively low rates over the summer months.  If you can switch to natural gas you can lock in the low rates permanently.

3)  Natural gas at $1.25 per therm is less than half the cost of heating oil at $3.70 per gallon.  If you can switch from oil to natural gas you will cut your heating bills in half - before you even consider the higher efficiency of today's boilers.

4) By acting now you will be able to have contractors focus on delivering the best hydronic heating system design for your needs.  Without the rush of emergency repairs, contractors have the time and desire to focus on your installation.
Radiant Floor
5) By doing your research now you will be able to select the best products for your home.  You may consider installing radiant floor heating to replace a furnace or baseboard.  Radiant floor heating can be installed in many existing homes without replacing the existing wood, tile, or carpeted floors.  Working over the summer time gives you the time to make an educated decision and gives the contractor the time to get the job done before the first Prestige Condensing Boilerfrost.

As you are doing your research, be sure to consider selecting products that best fit your needs.  Triangle Tube offers two lines of natural gas or propane high efficiency condensing boilers.

Triangle Tube's Prestige Condensing Boiler is a feature-rich boiler with a stainless steel fire-tube heat exchanger.  This heat exchanger has a high water content which maximizes efficiency by minimizing short cycling and pump electrical demand.  This boiler has become the high efficiency boiler leader due to its reliable performance and high efficiency with an AFUE of 96%.

The Prestige Excellence contains an integrated indirect water heater that allows it to not only meet your space heating demands, but also produce 180 gallons per hour of domestic hot water.  If you prefer a separate domestic hot water heater, the Smart Indirect Water Challenger Combination BoilerHeater, with a unique tank-in-tank design provides hot water with minimal standby losses and comes with a lifetime residential warranty.

Triangle Tube's Challenger Combination Boiler features a unique copper heat exchanger that provides both space heating and domestic hot water.  The Challenger is highly efficient in domestic hot water mode and has a 95% AFUE in space heating mode.

Water Heater Comparisons: Indirect Water Heaters and Instantaneous Water Heaters

Thursday, April 28, 2011 by Gerry Clisham
In the previous post (click here for this post) we discussed the characteristics of traditional gas and electric of water heaters.  These are the most common types of water heaters, however they are also the least efficient model.  These also have the shortest expected lifespan.  In this post we will discuss Instantaneous Water Heaters and Indirect Water Heaters.
Instantaneous Water Heater

Instantaneous Water Heaters
Instantaneous Water Heaters are a relatively new product in the market.  These water heaters heat domestic hot water only on demand, eliminating the storage tank and stored water volume.  Eliminating the storage tank also eliminates the standby heat loss from the stored water.  This energy efficiency has created interest as the energy costs have risen over the last few years.  While most people measure traditional water heaters by their storage volume (somewhat incorrectly), instantaneous water heaters are measured by their maximum flow rates.  These flow rates are important as they will determine how much water can be used at one time.  Instantaneous water heaters are promoted by saying that you will never run out of hot water, which is meant to deal with the fact that traditional water heaters, with their slow recovery rates, will run out of hot water.  Instantaneous water heaters will continue to produce hot water as long as requested, but you can get cold water from the shower if you use too much at one time.  Instantaneous water heaters have an estimated life of 15 to 20 years - however regular maintenance is required.  Scale will accumulate on the heat exchanger that must be removed periodically.

Indirect Water Heaters
Smart Indirect Fired Water HeaterIndirect Water Heaters are a perfect option for homes with existing boilers.  Because they utilize the boiler as their heat source, they have the simplest configuration.  Boiler system water is used to heat the domestic water.  Most indirect water heaters pump the boiler system water through a coil in the domestic hot water storage tank.  The heat is then transferred from the coil to the domestic water.  The Smart Indirect Water Heater uses a unique tank-in-tank design that surrounds the entire domestic water tank with hot boiler system water.  This results in a very high heat transfer rate and therefore a very fast recovery rate.  Therefore a 40 gallon Smart water heater will supply more hot water than a 40 gallon traditional gas water heater.  In fact the recovery rate of the Smart is twice as fast as a traditional gas water heater and four times as fast as an electric water heater.

When combined with a high efficiency boiler such as Triangle Tube's Prestige Solo boiler, indirect water heaters are very energy efficient.  They do not have the flue or chimney that is in a traditional gas boiler therefore their standby losses can be minimized   Triangle Tube's Smart Indirect Water Heater is surrounded by 2 inches of expanded foam, and minimizes the heat loss to 1/2 degree F per hour.  This translate to a cost of $0.05 per day to maintain 40 gallons at temperature with natural gas.

Coil-in-tank indirect water heaters will accumulate scale on the hot coils in the tank.  As this scale accumulates the efficiency of the tank decreases and the recovery rate gets longer.  The Smart Indirect Water Heater surrounds the domestic tank with hot boiler water, minimizing scale formation.  As fresh cold domestic water enters the tank, the inner tank is designed to expand and contract, dislodging any scale.  Therefore the tank will retain its high efficiency throughout its life.  And speaking of life, the Smart Indirect Water Heater comes with a limited Lifetime Warranty for residential installations.  So the Smart Indirect Water Heater will be the last water heater you ever buy.

Conclusion
Indirect Water Heaters are among the most efficient ways to produce domestic hot water.  It is important when considering any water heater that you look not only at the storage tank volume, but more importantly in how much water the tank can deliver.  Due to the unique tank-in-tank design, the Smart Indirect Water Heater is among the most reliable, most efficient, and most desirable water heaters you can select.

Challenger Combination Boiler's Copper Heat Exchanger Pulls Double Duty

Wednesday, April 13, 2011 by Gerry Clisham
The new Challenger Combination Boiler features a unique copper heat exchanger that is as simple as it is efficient.  With a 96% AFUE rating in space heating mode, the Challenger is an efficiency leader.  But the Challenger's unique heat exchanger is extremely efficient in domestic water heating mode as well.

The Challenger's heat exchanger features two copper waterways that heat both the space heating and domestic water.  Nearly all other combination boilers heat domestic water in a seperate, secondary heat exchanger.  This results in additional components and reduced efficiency.

What is a Condensing Boiler and Why is it Efficient?
The Challenger is a Condensing Boiler, which means that it condenses the moisture in the flue gases from combustion.  When it condenses this moisture, it pulls more heat from the flue gas into the heat exchanger.  We all have seen how a glass of cold water condenses the moisture from humid air.  The cold water absorbs heat from the air to allow the moisture to condense?

In the opposite mode, we have all seen how heating a pot of water will cause some of the water to evaporate into steam.  If you think about this process, you can add heat to water to bring it to the point of evaporation.  But if you stopped adding heat at this point the water would not evaporate.  But if you add heat, the water will use this heat to make steam.  This heat is called latent heat.  When a condensing boiler condenses, it is removing this latent heat from the steam.

Challenger gains Condensing Efficiency in Hot Water Mode

Challenger Combination BoilerWhen the Challenger heats the domestic hot water that is used in showers, laundry, dishwahers, and sinks throughout the house it is working at peak efficiency.  The cold water entering the boiler gives the heat exchanger the opportunity to maximimize the latent heat it can extract from the flue gas.

Other combination boilers are not able to gain this latent heat as they do not run the cold domestic water into the primary heat exchanger.  They run boiler system water to a secondary heat exchanger to heat the domestic hot water.  This boiler system water does not return to the primary heat exchanger at a low enough temperature to condense.  Therefore other boilers are not able to gain the efficiency of the Challenger.

Heating Oil Price jump makes High Efficiency Boilers even more attractive

Thursday, March 31, 2011 by Gerry Clisham
2011 has started out as a good year for heating oil prices - if you have your own well !  ButHeating Oil Futures are up 50% if you are relying on it for heat and hot water, you may have another opinion.  The attached chart from the US Energy Information Administration documents the 50% increase in heating oil futures in 2011.  While you may have locked in your oil rates for the heating season, now is the time to consider your alternatives for your heating system this fall.

There are many advantages to the natural gas boilers and indirect water heaters from Triangle Tube.  Because natural gas burns cleaner than fuel oil, it is not only good for the environment with its low NOx emissions, but it also greatly reduces the ongoing service costs.  And homegrown natural gas is abundant in North America, giving it much better price stability.
Challenger Combination Boiler
Prestige BoilerTriangle Tube's Prestige and Challenger condensing boilers achieve AFUE ratings of 95% or greater, putting them at the top of the market.  The boilers use modulation to further improve their efficiency compared to older boilers (click here to read more about modulation).  This is especially helpful in the spring and fall (the majority of the heating season) as it allows the boiler to run longer at lower firing rates, increasing efficiency.

The SMART indirect water heaters team up with the Prestige to provide plentiful hot water at a maximum efficiency.  The unique stainless steel tank-in-tank design quickly heats the water while the 2 inch foam insulation reduces standby heat loss to a nickle a day.  Instantaneous water heaters can't match the lifetime warranty on the Smart water heaters, making them the Smart choice for your home and wallet.

Prepare for the fall heating season now.  Eliminate the volatility of the heating oil market with a new natural gas boiler.  Contact Triangle Tube today for more information.

Challenger Boiler Saves Installation Time and Money !

Thursday, February 24, 2011 by Gerry Clisham
Triangle Tube's Challenger Combination Boiler has been designed to be efficient in all aspects.  It is easy to admire the 96% AFUE fuel efficiency as well as the compact size and attractive appearance of the Challenger.  In addition the Challenger produces instantaneous hot water efficiently thanks to its unique heat exchanger, resulting in an energy factor rating of 0.87.

But what often is overlooked is the efficiency with which it can be installed and programmed.  Because the Challenger eliminates the need for a separate hot water tank, it eliminates all of the time and piping required to install the tank (in addition to the cost of the tank itself).

Challenger Combination BoilerThe Challenger has several additional features that make it easy to install.  First, thanks to the simplicity of the design, it is lightweight with a weight of only 80 pounds for a 125 MBH appliance.  This makes it easy to lift and hang on the wall.  Second, each Challenger comes complete with an simple piping bracket that quickly, neatly, and securely provides connections for either the fuel (either natural gas or propane), space heating, and domestic hot water piping.  Third, each Challenger can be vented either concentrically or with two pipes.  This provides the flexibility to select the optimum venting for your installation.  Finally, the optional Timesaver manifold eliminates the guesswork as well as the time in designing and creating the pump and primary secondary connections.  Simply connect the Timesaver to the system piping, add in the pump, and the boiler is connected.

Making the Challenger easy to install benefits everyone.  The homeowner sees a lower installed cost and the installer can move on to another job.  And everyone benefits by the confidence that the boiler was installed properly !  Look for more information on Triangle Tube's website in March 2011 !

Prestige Excellence - A Unique Combination Boiler

Monday, February 21, 2011 by Gerry Clisham
The Prestige Excellence is a unique product.  The Prestige Excellence fills the space heating role that a boiler most people think of when thinking of boilers.  In fact, it performs this role extremely well with a 95% AFUE efficiency and other features discussed below.  The Prestige Excellence also fills the role of the domestic hot water heater, producing plentiful hot water for the household.

Prestige Excellence Combination BoilerIt is in the domestic hot water mode that the Prestige Excellence sets itself apart.  While other combination boilers can produce both space heating and domestic hot water, most do not have an integrated storage tank.  Most combination boilers do not store hot water;  they produce it instantly much like an instantaneous water heater.  This can have some drawbacks, most noticably a delay in the delivery of the hot water.

The Prestige Excellence contains a fully integrated 14 gallon hot water storage tank.  This enables the Prestige Excellence to supply water with the same response as a traditional storage tank water heater.  The unique tank-in-tank design allows the Excellence to continue to produce hot water at a rate of 180 gallons per hour for the first hour.  This performance has earned praise from homeowners who may have been skeptical at first.

In the boiler role, the Prestige Excellence has the green credentials of low NOx emissions and high efficiency due to its modulating and condensing stainless steel heat exchanger.  This highly efficient and reliable system makes the Prestige Excellence the perfect replacement to older, inefficient boilers.

Providing both space heating and hot water reduces the installation cost and space requirements for the Prestige Excellence.  Contact Triangle Tube to find a certified installer near you.

Radiant Floor Heating - Warm from the Ground Up

Tuesday, January 25, 2011 by Gerry Clisham

It is safe to say that most people do not give much consideration to the type of heating system when they are considering a house purchase.  But people who have experienced the benefits of radiant floor heating are certain to have this on their list.

Radiant floor heating's growth is one of the most positive trends in the HVAC industry in recent years.  These systems have the unique feature of being energy efficient, comfortable, invisible, and silent.  In nearly every aspect they are a clear winner.

Radiant Floor InstallationRadiant floor heating systems are a modern alternative to the traditional cast iron radiators or the more recent hot water baseboard systems.  In a radiant floor system water (or glycol in some cases) is heated by a boiler and circulated through tubing that is installed under the floor.  This water warms the flooring and the heat then radiates throughout the home.

There are many benefits to this process.  First, it is extremely energy efficient as the warmest part of the room is the floor, which is the part of the room people use.  A hot air furnace heats the air which enters the room through registers on the floor, but then quickly rises to the ceiling, making it the warmest part of the room.  In comparison, a room heated by radiant flooring can be kept at a lower overall temperature yet feel warmer than a room heated by hot air.

Second, the system is invisible and silent.  The tubing is under the floor and out of the way.  There is no sound of air moving through ducts.  Third the system contributes to a healthy home by minimizing dust and keeping the room at a more comfortable humidity level.  Fourth, the system is multi-functional.  A well designed hydronic heating system can heat your home, hot water, swimming pool, and even melt the snow on your driveway or walkway.

Triangle Tube is an industry leading provider of hydronic heating equipment.  The Prestige boilers lead the market with a high efficiency, reliable heat exchanger and use either natural gas or propane.  The Smart indirect water heaters heat water twice as fast as a traditional gas fired water heater and feature a unique stainless steel tank-in-tank design backed by a limited lifetime warranty.  Maxi Flo pool and spa heat exchangers enable you to use your high efficiency boiler to extend your swimming season.

Consider upgrading your home with Radiant Floor Heating.  There's no need to move to install radiant floor heating.  A certified contractor can replace your hot air system with a radiant system in many cases without disturbing the existing flooring.  Contact Triangle Tube to find a certified contractor in your area today.

Indirect Water Heater stores 40 gallons of Hot Water for $0.05 per day

Being green means doing what's best for the environment, and in some cases it requires some sacrifice.  But if you install a Smart Indirect Water Heater from Triangle Tube, there are big benefits for both you and the environment.

Hydronic heating is the most energy efficient and comfortable way to heat your home.  Hydronic heating uses a boiler like the Prestige modulating boiler to heat hot water that passes through baseboard, in-floor, or traditional radiators.  One of the other benefits of a hydronic heating system is the ability to use an indirect water heater, which is more energy efficient, more reliable, and more productive than traditional gas or electric water heaters.

One of the benefits of the Smart Indirect Water Heater is that it is completely surrounded by  insulation, unlike traditional gas water heaters that have an uninsulated and drafty flue pipe through their center.  By using 2 inches of foam insulation a Smart indirect water heater is so well insulated that the standby heat loss is only $0.05 per day !
Smart Indirect Water Heaters
A nickel a day is a small price to keep 40 gallons of hot water ready for use (based on natural gas at $1.25/therm).  Many people are considering installing instantaneous water heaters to avoid paying for standby heat loss.  But in their quest to be green, they are having to wait for the hot water to respond, and also are limited in the amount of water they can withdraw at one time.  In addition, the installation and maintenance costs may outweigh any cost savings possible.

In contrast, the Smart water heaters provide instant hot water response to as many demands as needed until the tank is depleted.  But even then, the unique design of the Smart tank reheats water at an industry leading pace.  Designed to eliminate energy robbing limescale, the Smart keeps performing efficiently throughout its life - which is a long one that is guaranteed by a limited lifetime warranty.

Take full advantage of your hydronic heating system and make a comparison between the Smart tank and any other tank type or instantaneous water heater.  When you add up all of the benefits to a Smart Indirect Water Heater, you will see that selecting it truly is the Smart choice.
